The 40 and over St. Nicks Hockey Club went back to Ellenton, Florida to defend its 2001 National Championship. The squad had many new players this year, as only seven players from last year's championship team returned. Unfortunately, the team was in a tough Division and was not able to win another title. In order to make the playoffs, St. Nicks needed to beat a tough North Carolina Eagles Team. St. Nicks kept the game close, trailing only 1-0 late in the second period, but North Carolina scored with two minutes remaining in the period and had a 2-0 lead going into the third period. With only 11 skaters and two goaltenders, St. Nicks finally tired in the third period and North Carolina ended up winning handily. North Carolina went on to win the tournament. · 2001 Recap
